Respaldo is a foundation for specialized mental healthcare in Aruba, established in 2017. Its broad range of services focuses on both youth and adults with psychological problems. Respaldo’s care cluster consists of a clinic, day programs, a FACT team for adults, a crisis service, a POPP team (Psychiatry, Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Psychology), and two outpatient teams: one for Children & Youth and one for Adult Care.
The care services (primary care process) are led under dual leadership, consisting of a Manager of Treatment Affairs and a Manager of Care. Together, this management duo is responsible for overseeing the entire care service cluster. Each discipline is further supported by a team leader duo.
The Psychiatrist reports to the Manager of Treatment Affairs. Together with the Team Leader, the Psychiatrist provides treatment-related direction within the department and gives functional guidance to healthcare professionals within the team.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist / Adult Psychiatrist

Role description
The Psychiatrist conducts specialized psychodiagnostic assessments and, based on these, develops treatment plans. Clients with complex psychiatric problems are guided and treated, applying intensive behavioral interventions in complex situations. In addition, the psychiatrist prescribes medication and monitors the client’s medication use. Care delivery is regularly evaluated, after which appropriate actions are taken where necessary.
Furthermore, the Psychiatrist provides supervision, conducts courses, training and education, and plays an active role in developing and implementing treatment policies in the field of psychiatry. Contributions are also made to the development of general care and organizational policies. The Psychiatrist works both during office hours and in on-call services outside office hours.
Requirements
· Completed medical degree and board certification as a psychiatrist (BIG registration or equivalent).
· Strong listening skills, open attitude, and strong team spirit.
· Flexible generalist, broadly deployable and willing to work outside the comfort zone.
· Ability to independently perform Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is an advantage.
· Ability to work independently within legal frameworks, professional standards, and organizational guidelines.
· Strong social skills, including tact, empathy, motivation, encouragement, and conflict resolution, particularly within intensive treatment relationships.
· Flexibility and the ability to act with cultural sensitivity.
· Fluency in English, Spanish and Dutch is a strong asset.
· Basic understanding of or affinity with Papiamento is preferred.
· Strong written skills in drafting medical policy plans and substantive reports.
· Perseverance and resilience in dealing with complex diagnostics and intensive psychotherapeutic treatments.
· Ability to work systemically in diagnostics and psychodiagnostics research.
· Integrity in handling personal and confidential client information.
